MAY 31: NATIONAL DAM SAFETY AWARENESS DAY

May 2016 - Pittsburgh, PA - Observed each year on May 31, National Dam Safety Awareness Day commemorates the tragic failure of the South Fork Dam in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1889, which took more than 2,200 lives and was the worst dam failure in the history of the United States. Founded and sponsored by FEMA, National Dam Safety Awareness Day seeks to encourage and promote individual and community responsibility and best practices for dam safety, as well as steps that can be taken to prevent future catastrophic dam failures. (PDF)

RIZZO PROJECT AWARDED ESWP’S 2015 ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PROJECT OF THE YEAR

Each year the ESWP recognizes outstanding projects that highlight the important contributions engineers make to our society. RIZZO’S ADKINS ASSISTS IN SOUTH CAROLINA DAM SAFETY

October 2015 - Pittsburgh, PA - A recent article on dam safety published by South Carolina newspaper the State, featured a photo of Engineering Director H. Grady Adkins, PE. The article, entitled "Floods, rain, expose SC's flawed dam safety program" examined how the record rainfalls that occurred between October 1st and 5th in South Carolina have showcased weaknesses within the state's dam safety program. (PDF)

RIZZO'S ZHU PUBLISHED IN INAUGURAL ASCE-ASME JOURNAL

March 2015 - Pittsburgh, PA - A paper coauthored by RIZZO’s own Dr. Benjin Zhu has been published in the inaugural issue of “ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part A: Civil Engineering”. The scope of this journal includes topics directly related to SPRA and other Risk and Safety Assessments for the Nuclear Industry and other practice areas where future design efforts are increasingly shifting to probabilistic methods.
